Growing demand for disruption protection

Affirma has seen an increase in enquiries for its Travel Disruption Cover which offers travel businesses protection against financial losses when their customers’ holidays have been disrupted by a ‘Force Majeure’ event such as strikes, airspace closure, terrorism or climate conditions/acts of nature having catastrophic consequence.

Lawrence Assock, Head of Corporate Partnerships said ‘Travel agents and travel organisers who arrange a travel package for a customer have a responsibility under the Package Travel Regulations to ensure their customer receives their holiday, and if that can’t happen, they will have to offer a refund out of their own pocket. Travel Disruption cover is designed to protect the agent against this type of loss by covering the costs of delays, curtailment, and even abandonment, as a result of major disruption.’

Assock went on to say ‘The recent problems with the strikes on Eurostar are an excellent example of where agents would be protected. The agent may be able to recover the cost of the Eurostar, but not the cost of having to book their customer on a replacement flight or refund their accommodation if there’s no alternative. Travel Disruption and our other products such as financial failure insurance and supplier failure cover have all been designed not only to protect travel organisers financially but to protect their brand by enabling them to support their customer with travel arrangements.’
